For those who are not into fancy, fast-paced, and over-the-top coffee shops, Manual Crew Slowbar offers a refreshing alternative. It sets itself apart from other cafés in GenSan with its homey vibe and customer engagement through slow-paced coffee brewing.
Barista-owner Adrianne Louise Flaviano drew inspiration from coffee shops in Vietnam and Thailand, where coffee enthusiasts enjoy meaningful conversations with baristas who brew their coffee. For Flaviano, it is a passion to share her coffee knowledge with her customers.
Although the concept of a ‘slow bar’ is not new, many coffee drinkers in GenSan and the region are still amazed by it. This concept gained traction with the rise of home brewing during the pandemic. As coffee consumers became more discerning, the manual brew movement was propelled forward. The manual brewing method has always been known for its ability to highlight the flavors and quality of specialty coffee beans.
Before settling into the 'slow bar' concept, Flaviano started as a pop-up café brand called 'The Vanilla Bean,' only appearing at special events. Now, Manual Crew Slowbar is building a coffee community, one conversation at a time.
To further her coffee knowledge, Flaviano has undergone extensive training, earning SCA certifications in Sensory and Green Coffee. She has also participated in numerous coffee competitions, achieving 2nd place in the 1st Yaman GenSan Brewer’s Cup Competition and the 1st AeroPress Competition in Mindanao, and winning the BrewFest Taster’s Cup Competition.
Located in the Malasedo Subdivision, Manual Crew Slowbar transforms a house apartment into a welcoming "neighborhood slowbar." This café invites customers to comfortably share and interact with the barista, as well as fellow coffee enthusiasts who relish meaningful coffee conversations. The café highlights locally produced coffee from Soccsksargen and other coffee-producing provinces in the Philippines.
Manual Crew Slowbar is known for using the Flair 58 manual espresso maker. They also offer a variety of coffee vessels, including V60 and Kalita, to suit the customer's preferences. In addition to brewed coffee, customers can enjoy other beverages such as “hybrid drinks” and “matcha selection,” all at reasonable prices.
Flaviano aims to promote local farmers, micro-roasters, and other key players in the coffee industry.
“I want to have meaningful coffee interactions. I want my customers to meet others, especially in the coffee industry. I want them to learn more about specialty coffee,” she said.
Manual Crew Slowbar is not just a café; it's a community hub where coffee lovers can gather, learn, and enjoy high-quality brews.
