Cotabato Literary Circle to Host 2025 SOX Writers Workshop

The Cotabato Literary Circle (CLC) is set to host the SOX Writers Workshop (SWW) on July 14-17, 2025, at Rangayen, Alamada, Cotabato Province.

This regional literary initiative aims to nurture emerging writers, providing a platform to refine their craft, engage with mentors, and celebrate SOCCSKSARGEN’s diverse cultures.

CLC recently announced a call for fellows via its official Facebook page, inviting representatives from Region 12’s provinces and cities to participate.

Workshop Director Kevin Ray Abesamis highlighted that this year’s workshop introduces elements of disconnection and discomfort, encouraging participants to strip down to the essentials and reconnect with their rawest emotions and creative instincts.

The event also marks CLC’s official public launch as a literary group in Cotabato Province. Having gained momentum in the local literary scene, the organization sees this workshop as a major step forward in its advocacy.

“Aligning with the workshop theme, we are also stepping out of our comfort zones as we take on a bigger role in the region’s literary and arts scene,” Abesamis shared.

Originally known as the SOX Summer Writing Camp, the workshop debuted at Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GenSan) in 2019. It has since evolved into a premier regional literary event. Fellows submit manuscripts in short fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry for critique and discussion, fostering literary growth.

SWW is supported by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and Aklat Alamid, alongside SOCCSKSARGEN literary and arts organizations, including the Sarangani Writers League, Maratabat: MSU-GenSan Writers Guild, Sigaw Heneral, Words by the South, Timog Literary Circle, The SOX Writers Collective, Tridax Zines, and Babaylan Zines.
