Kidapawan Mayor Vows: No Tricycle Fare Hike Amid Crisis

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Mayor Atty. Jose Paolo “Pao” Evangelista assured residents that tricycle fares will remain unchanged despite the ongoing world crisis.

Speaking during the Flag Raising Ceremony and Convocation program on March 30, Mayor Evangelista emphasized that the local government is committed to shielding commuters from additional financial burdens.

To support tricycle drivers, the city has begun distributing Fleet Cards loaded with ₱1,000 per month, a subsidy that will continue until December 2026.

Mayor Evangelista explained that raising fares would only worsen the situation for drivers, as higher costs could discourage passengers and reduce their income.

“The effects of this crisis should not be passed on to Kidapaweños,” the mayor said, stressing that it is the responsibility of the local government to find solutions rather than burden the public.

In line with this commitment, the city has also cancelled concerts and fiesta activities to redirect resources toward essential needs, prioritizing the welfare of residents during this challenging period.

This measure highlights the local government’s solidarity with residents in facing the challenges of the ongoing crisis.

“I always believe that in every crisis there is an opportunity. There is an opportunity to learn, to grow and to be better. To emerge stronger from the crisis. Kidapawan City will emerge stronger from this crisis,” he said.
