KORONADAL CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 12 honored outstanding environmental champions during the 3rd Gawad Kalikasan SOX ceremony on June 29 at the Habi Hotel here.
Anchored on the theme "Bayani ng Kalikasan, Bayani ng SOX," the program recognized individuals, businesses, and academic institutions for advancing environmental protection and sustainable development across the SOCCSKSARGEN region. The agency also launched an official environmental advocacy soundtrack titled "Kalikasan, Di Magwawakas."
Maria Elvira V. Lumayag, OIC-regional executive director, said the awards recognize ecological excellence through sustained commitment, innovation, and social accountability. She called for strengthened public-private partnerships to uphold ecological integrity.
Rodrigo C. Panes of Sarangani won the individual category, while the First Gen EDC Mt. Apo Geothermal Project of Cotabato won the private sector award. Sultan Kudarat State University topped the academe category, Green USM won the youth organization award, and the Malitubog Farmers Association earned the people's organization award. GMA Regional TV secured the media category win.
Special recognition was also conferred upon C.A. Betalac Construction and General Merchandise Inc. and the Philippine Information Agency Region XII for supporting the department's regional advocacy initiatives.
