GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Artist and designer Rain Rivera Ramas detailed his evolution from a child fascinated by local folklore to a disciplined esoteric practitioner during a special Halloween episode of the "SOX On The Spot" podcast.
Ramas discussed how early exposure to Philippine mythology and "Hiwaga Comics" sparked a fear-driven curiosity that eventually transformed into an organized pursuit of knowledge.
His formal study of the supernatural began during his university years as a member of the University of the Philippines Paranormal Society. The group trained members to approach reported phenomena through scientific inquiry before exploring spiritual or metaphysical interpretations.
Central to Ramas' current philosophy is the concept of surrendering control. Following significant personal losses, he stepped back from a high-stress career driven by hustle culture to focus on personal peace, gratitude and mindfulness.
He noted that his daily habits, including a specific ritual while stirring his morning coffee, serve as intentional prayers to maintain mental focus rather than rigid magical spells.
When asked how he navigates skepticism regarding his spiritual path, Ramas emphasized staying grounded in personal experience.
"I surrendered [and said], 'Holy Spirit, take care of me,'" Ramas said. "When I did that, I had less desire for material gain or material interest... the past three years with that kind of mindset, I would say these were the most beautiful years of my life."
Beyond his personal transformation, Ramas recounted unsettling experiences with precognitive visions, which he claimed provided him with advance insights into major seismic events.
Today, Ramas views his spiritual practices not as superstition, but as a daily, lived experience that merges logic, faith and personal growth.
“SOX On The Spot” is hosted by Yadu Karu (Genory Vanz Alfasain) and Papa Lem (Harlem Jude Ferolino). It is available on Spotify and other major online platforms.
